The #1848Revolutions that occurred in 50 countries or territories reached the German-speaking world on #ThisDayInHistory in 1848 with the #MarchRevolution. These movements showed a common distaste for monarchy & conservatism, but their liberal & leftwing elements could not unite.
The only real success of the #1848Revolutions was in #France and it came quickly. The revolution began on 22 Feb. 1848, and on #ThisDayInHistory the protesters reached the palace and #KingLouisPhilippe quickly abdicated. The new republic was little better and collapsed in 1951.

"#Marx participated in the #1848revolutions in Prussia [...] Those #revolutions failed [...] Marx and many [exiles] ended up in London, but many of them ended up in the United States and they become known as the #48ers [...] they joined the Republican Party, they joined the #abolitionistMovement..."
