This is just a reminder that next Tuesday is the last security update #Windows10 will get and marks the end of support for the OS. After that point, the longer you continue to use #Windows 10, the greater your likelihood of suffering a breach, malware, etc.

So if you haven't already, make your plan to upgrade to #Windows11, a #Linux distribution, buy a new computer, or pay for extended support from either #Microsoft or a third party like #0Patch.

0patch has just released a free patch again for a security issue -- a SCF File NTLM hash disclosure 0day vulnerability -- that Microsoft has yet to fix again. The issue effects Windows 7 to 11 and Windows Server 2008 to 2025.

I'm trying #0patch on my Hypver-V 2019 boxes. While extended support runs until early 2029, why not supplement with their free tier?

I doubt that they will be able to cover a suitably wide range of vulnerabilities to actually keep machines "secure," so that they could be confidently used beyond the official support term. They might be able to cover a few simplistic vulns to "keep their promise," but I can't believe it can be more than just a "placebo effect"...

Я очень люблю Windows 7: на мой взгляд, после легендарной XP это самая удачная версия операционной системы от Microsoft с точки зрения быстродействия, надежности и удобства пользовательского интерфейса. К сожалению, «семёрка» уже безнадежно устарела: она не обновляется, и кроме того, на ней не запускаются некоторые нужные и полезные приложения. Означает ли это, что Windows 7 можно окончательно списывать со счетов, или существует возможность полноценно пользоваться ей в наступающем 2024 году?
