I made a browser extension that changes the word “billionaire” to “oligarch” and, well, it’s about as perfect as I was hoping.

“the same article, Insider revealed that Decentraland, arguably the largest and most relevant Metaverse platform, had only 38 active daily users. The Guardian reported that the monetized content ecosystem in Meta’s flagship product Horizon Worlds produced no more than $470 in revenue globally. You’re not reading those numbers wrong. To say that the Metaverse is dead is an understatement. It was never alive.”

Lessons From the Catastrophic Failure of the Metaverse

Did the “creative class” learn anything from buying into a product that was obviously destined to flop?

"Only about a third of ad dollars reach their intended audiences".

We let these insufferable pricks built an entire global surveillance apparatus that tracks our every digital interaction from cradle to grave, we rolled over and sacrificed the internet for the metrics of eyeballs and rageclicks, we spent all this time hearing about the brilliant engineering acumen of Google and Facebook and whoever else, and the whole thing is only 36% cost-effective end to end.

"This page is slowing down your browser" no somebody's developers are overburdening my browser, and yes my computer is smol but the thing I want is also smol and I don't have a way to tell the web page that I want only the smol thing and not the rubbery animations or the automatic refreshing or an acre of code that does nothing for the smol but maybe lets people I will never meet hit metrics I don't care about for whimsically-devowelled companies I would dislike if I was aware of their existence

Is there a tool people use for bumping release versions of apps? I mean the dance that one needs to do before every minor release of an app, where you edit the version in pubspec.yaml, and probably also change the version string in some Dart file, and then make a commit and add a tag that says something like "v1.0.234".

I got so bored by this that I made a tiny one-off tool for Knights of San Francisco. But there must be something out there, no?

Speaking of treasures, I’m very excited to announce svcs 23.21.0 – the first release since going stable! I’m happy to see that while the resonance has been (as expected) rather weak, it has already found people who “got it” – and got excited. So, I’m hopeful it might become a slow burn. :)

Accordingly, most of the changes go back to feedback from using it in practice. Most notably container-local registries and some minor typing hiccups.

Highlights The main feature of this release are container-local registries that allow you to define factories that are only valid for a container. For example, based on request metadata! Check out ...

It's not immigrants who are making your life harder.

It's not poor people.

It's not minorities.

It's not LGBT people.

All that other stuff is just to distract you from noticing the actual problem.

@tintvrtkovic @ossronny Always a performance nightmare, constantly a security headache. GraphQL has to be the most misguided hype ever and it was obvious from day 1. 😳

Given how often ML models will periodically just spit out their training data verbatim, you should assume that anything you've put into Dropbox is something somebody else might see, whether you wanted that or not, whether that's a problem for you or not.
