This week I went down into the cellar and salvaged my three pairs of western #boots I bought in the late #1980s and early '90s. The rest of the afternoon I spent refurbishing them while watching "The Electric Horseman" (Pollack 1979) starring #RobertRedford and #JaneFonda. Quite an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon, I have to say. #fashion #retro #vintage #vintagefashion #GenerationX #cowboy
An open letter by legendary italian director Federico #Fellini to equally legendary french #comic book artist Jean "#Moebius" Giraud, published in "#HeavyMetal Presents Moebius" (1981). #federicofellini #film #cinema #movies #comics #comicbooks #comicart
Yesterday evening I spent two hours in the #theatre listening to legendary #actor #KlausMariaBrandauer reading an assortment of well-chosen texts to us. Absolutely fabulous! Well, I couldn't help myself and wore this pair of #cufflinks to the occasion.
So, the idea in #ForzaHorizon4 is to choose the cars you simply like best, and then look for tuning kits made by specialist fellow players. Now I have a Lamborghini Miura (produced between 1966 and 1973), and a Lotus Esprit S1 (1976), both behaving like 2020s hypercars. #gaming #videogames #classiccar #sportscar #lotus
My recommendation for tonight is to read John Marks' recent short piece on #RudyGiuliani and then watch "The Verdict" (1982) directed by #SidneyLumet from a screenplay by #DavidMamet and starring #PaulNewman. #film #cinema #movies #law #justice https://edition.cnn.com/2023/01/07/opinions/rudy-giulianis-two-sides-ctpr-marks/index.html
Is it conceivable that Agent 47 – a perfect assassin – wears a red tie to his black signature suit, because the last of the Metabarons – a dynasty of perfect warriors – wears a red T-shirt to his black attire? The Metabaron first appeared in the "Incal" #graphicnovels, written by Alejandro #Jodorowsky and illustrated by #Moebius (aka #JeanGiraud), in 1980. Twenty years prior to the first game of the #Hitman franchise. #gaming #videogames #comic #comics #comicbooks #comicart #graphicnovel
Did you know that magnificent #actress #HannaSchygulla met Giacomo #Casanova, Chevalier de Seingalt, at least twice? First as the Comtesse Sophie de la Borde in "That Night in Varennes" (Scola 1982), opposite #MarcelloMastroianni as Casanova, and then five years later playing his mother in the TV-movie "Casanova" (Langton 1987) – this time #RichardChamberlain is playing the titular role.

"We can be pretty certain that our literary tastes are arrived at not so much by conscious choice as in response to the less-than-conscious demands of our temperament." –Kingsley Amis, Foreword to Sarban's "The Sound of his Horn" (1952) #book #books #bookstodon

SARBAN [aka WALL, JOHN WILLIAM]. 1952. The sound of his horn. London: Peter Davies Ltd.

The first #movie I watched in 2023 is "That Night in Varennes" (Scola 1982) starring a fantastic #MarcelloMastroianni, playing an elderly Giacomo #Casanova, a formidable #HarveyKeitel, and a fabulous #HannaSchygulla, and generally an absolutely stunning cast, including Jean-Louis Trintignant and Michel Piccoli. Taking place in France in 1791 the #film is at the same time a #roadmovie and an intimate play, taking place inside the carriages drawn by horses and the coaching inns they stop over at.
