@Atemu I guess this boils down to whether you interpret “You may not impose any further restrictions on the recipients' exercise of the rights granted herein”, said in the context of a license grant, to merely talk about restrictions within the license, or also technical restrictions. My reading would be the former, in which case the behavior in question is totally fine; but IANAL, and I can see how you can interpret that differently.

Takeaway: Legalese is complicated…

@Atemu I guess the answer is that you indeed are allowed to change the binary on your TV – if you have the ability to do so. But Vizio is under no obligation to help you do so or make sure the TV still boots afterwards; it's simply not a copyright violation for you to do so.
