Exciting news: I’ve moved my blog from bluesabre.org to seand.xyz! It’s a fresh start focused on mentorship, healthy communities, and growing beyond code.  Xubuntu needs more engagement and maintainers, and this reframing is my first step toward making that happen. Xubuntu – Xubuntu is an elegant and easy-to-use operating system.

#Xubuntu users! Do you still use "indicators"? In particular, the ones that are not compatible with the modern KStatusNotifier spec?

Xubuntu ships the Xfce Indicator and Systray plugins as well as "indicator-messages." Does indicator-messages (the mail icon indicator) still work? Should we consider dropping the Indicator plugin for 25.10 to fix issues like these? I'm leaning towards yes.

Hello, Mastodon family! It's been a long time coming, but Xubuntu has officially left X behind!

https://x.com/Xubuntu/status/1886754277177123276

If you're still using X, consider sharing our update to spread awareness. We'll continue to bring you the best of #Xfce and #Linux... all in one place.

(edit: because everything is confusing and nothing makes sense... we're leaving X, formerly known as Twitter, not X11. Wayland is still very much in the future!)

Xubuntu (@Xubuntu) on X

Xubuntu Development Update January 2025

The Xubuntu development update for January 2025 features Xfce 4.20, GIMP 3.0, and many smaller improvements.

Beyond the release of Xfce 4.20, I've also been thinking about theming in Xubuntu.

We've long shipped the Greybird and Numix themes. Greybird was developed largely internally (❤️ Shimmer Project), but hasn't had much love in recent years. The same can be said for Numix.

What themes do you recommend that are well-maintained and work well with Xfce, MATE, and GNOME? Would they be a good fit for Xubuntu?
