@Gargron @wiz nah I think something is wrong. I can’t view your toots or followers from my instance, getting this error Mastodon::UnexpectedResponseError: Delivery failed for https://relay.joinmastodon.org/inbox: https://relay.joinmastodon.org/inbox returned code 500
hi @Gargron quick question. any idea why the profile photo for @wiz doesn't show up here, but looks fine on that instance?
@Gargron @13tem @MrHodl @lopp after setting up my node, how do I migrate my account on your node to my own?
@MrHodl @lopp @Gargron with a social network I think it's a bit different though, because the bitcoin P2P network broadcasts all transactions to all nodes, whereas mastodon might only broadcast certain data to certain nodes, which could potentially be censored, and with bitcoin you can just take your private keys to any node and access your funds, but with mastodon what you own is presumably the domain name which your followers would "follow" and you need to maintain those relationships
@MrHodl @lopp @Gargron but that's my entire point, there shouldn't be a "bitcoin instance" just like there shouldn't be a bitcoin, com site - we should all run our own instances
@Gargron @raucao @lopp well then, I know what I'm going to be working on tonight
@raucao @lopp I'm sure that @Gargron is a nice guy, but the reality is that he could abuse my private data, or censor me, etc. - we should improve the technology so that if I want to follow @lopp our "full nodes" peer directly with each other, to prevent any invasion of privacy or censorship etc.
@kalle I think it's simply because that was one of the oldest or first nodes and people typically sign up on the same node as their friends
@Gargron @lopp to a crypto-anarchists who already runs my own bitcoin "full nodes" for financial sovereignty, running my own mastodon node is a no-brainer, of course this is how social networks should be πŸ‘
@Gargron @lopp okay cool, is there a newbie guide for how mastodon works and the philosophies behind it? πŸ˜€
