If anyone does have an account on Threads, I'd be very interested if you can find and follow my account from over there. Basically just want to know if our instance is available to Threads users.

Tried to sign up for Threads in order to test the new fediverse stuff, and failed to get past the username/password form. I think after too many failed attempts trying to pick a username that wasn't taken, some kind of server-side protection got in the way and just marked literally any username as already taken, no matter how complicated or silly it was.

Maybe it wasn't even about the username, but about the fact that I"m using a VPN. Who knows. I don't care enough to even check.

It's almost as if relying on a single VC-funded company and its apps for your decentralized protocol is a bad idea.
