I'll have you know I'm not that kind of doctor.

I just realized that it's April 23.

That means it's the anniversary of the Farmville, Virginia Motion High School student strike.

What? You don't know about that?

Well, in 1951, Barbara Johns was fed up with the deplorable conditions in her segregated school, so she organized a strike. She was inspired by labor strikes.

After she and her classmates turned the rural town of Farmville upside down, she called in the NAACP.

Elizabeth Freeman, known as MumBet, symbolized the relentless spirit of those who challenged the brutal system of slavery. Her personal victory intertwined with the broader quest for freedom & equality in early America. Notably, almost a decade before the U.S. Constitution's ratification, she became the first Black American woman in Massachusetts to successfully sue for her freedom.

Bobby might share the same name as our father, but he does not share the same values, vision or judgment. Today's announcement is deeply saddening for us. We denounce his candidacy and believe it to be perilous for our country.

I can't believe I nearly missed the anniversary of one of the most tragic geopolitical event of the post-WW2 era!

Fifty years ago, on 11 September 1973, Augusto #Pinochet led a fascist coup in #Chile, with the open support of the USA, who were very keen on spreading democracy, but mostly focussed on Latin America back then.

Pinochet's military dictatorship kidnapped, tortured, raped, and murdered 1000s, all while plundering the country's resources and economy.

President Biden cites facts that white supremacy terror is America’s greatest domestic security threat—and MAGAs lose their minds.

Here’s the thing.

I’m Muslim. I don’t feel attacked when people condemn the Taliban because Taliban do not represent Muslims and I proudly take the lead in condemning Taliban terrorism.

If you’re MAGA white and feel personally attacked when Biden condemns white supremacy terror—you are absolutely telling on yourself.

The conservative state legislatures couldn’t muster enough votes to pass bills that would have severely restricted the procedure.

March (& likely FINAL) Update: COVID Death Rates by Partisan Lean & Vaccination Rate (w/Bivalent Booster data)

NOTE: With the news that the Johns Hopkins University COVID Tracking project & other reliable data sources are shutting down on March 10th, this may be the last update to this project, although I may be able to find alternatives for county-level COVID deaths. As of this writing, 69.3% of the total U.S. population has completed their primary COVID-19 vaccination series (including 94.3% of those 65+), but a mere 16.2% of the total population has also gotten their updated bivalent booster shot. Even among seniors it's only at 41.4% nationally. The bivalent booster has only been approved for all adults since the end of August 2022, but that's still pretty bad 6 months later: By comparison, a full 58% of the U.S. population had gotten their 2nd vaccination dose by the end of October 2021 (the exact same 6 months after the primary series was approved for all U.S. adults). Since we're so far removed from May 2021, and since the primary vaccination series effectiveness wears off after some time, I've also added both the partisan lean and vaccination rate breakout since August 31, 2022...the day that the FDA authorized the bivalent booster for all U.S. adults. As always, here's my methodology: County-level 2020 Population data via U.S.

Biden: "We reaffirm the Federal Government’s formal apology to Japanese Americans for the suffering inflicted by these policies. And we commit to Nidoto Nai Yoni – to 'Let It Not Happen Again.' "

Statement from President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. on the Day of Remembrance of Japanese American Incarceration - The White House

When President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, eighty-one years ago today, it ushered in one of the most shameful periods in American history. The wrongful incarceration of 120,000 Americans of Japanese descent tore families apart. Men, women, and children were forced to abandon their homes, their jobs, their communities, their businesses, and their…
