January was a busy gaming month for me. I replayed two of my favorite videos games. A Link to the Past is my favorite game of all time, and I love Chrono Trigger but I had gone far too long (at least 15 years) without finishing it.

The SAO game was surprisingly fun.

I love the original Trace Memory/Another Code for DS and playing the remake was exciting. I enjoyed it. I also reviewed it; I'll have to post that article here sometime soon. 😊

Games I Completed in 2023 #23:
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Last time I played Phantom Hourglass, I played on WiiU, was live streaming the entire game, and I focused primarily on the main quest.

This time I went back to DS hardware and made sure to do side content. It's still among my least favorite Zelda games, but it's mostly because the others are so good rather than this one being bad.

I had a good time replaying it.

Games I Completed in 2023 #23:
Fire Emblem: Engage

Extremely predictable story, pointless base building minigame nonsense (that is thankfully optional) - and some of the best tactics game mechanics I have ever encountered.

The great parts about Engage far outweigh it's mediocre writing. I hope the future of the Fire Emblem series doesn't dumb down the mechanics. This is one of the best strategy games ever made.

Easily my favorite Fire Emblem game.

Game of the Week 8/6/2023:
Fire Emblem: Engage

I'm having a lot more fun with Engage than I expected. It's the first Fire Emblem game I have played since Awakening. I'm almost finished with it, and it's likely to become my favorite.

The story is pretty generic, but the core game mechanics are solid - some of the best in the genre.

Bombers’ Notebook: Sakon - Zelda Universe

Despite only getting to see three days of events in the city, a lot happens in Clock Town. In between all of the panic induced by the falling moon, a thief named Sakon is running around making life worse for many of the residents of Clock Town. Though he never directly comes after Link, the

Yuga’s Art Gallery: The creators’ nebula - Zelda Universe

“In the beginning…” The Zelda series feels like it has a multitude of beginnings. The series itself began in the 8-bit era of the NES, but chronologically, Skyward Sword is the first game in the series and tells the tale of the forging of the Master Sword as well as Demise’s dastardly curse. I decided to try the #Pikmin4 demo tonight, and the game is exactly what I expected. If you love the other #Pikmin games, then you'll love the new one too.

I am not a Pikmin fan, and the demo did not do anything to change my mind. I find the gameplay boring until it's annoying and/or stressful.
