Mark GritterSol_HSA has been doing visualizations of #AdventOfCode problems over at Cohost; this one from day 23 is particularly interesting as the dynamics are not at all what I expected.
jwzWhat kind of Mastodon discovery tools are available? Off the top of my head, things that would be nice:
"Who are these people?" - Show me a few posts (not boosts) from each of my most recent followers.
"Actual social network" - Show me posts from the people followed by people I follow, and who the link is. LJ called this "friendsfriends" and it was cool.
"Trending" - posts boosted by people 2 or 3 hops away from me, ordered by number of boosts, and omitting ones I've seen.
Tucker TeagueIf you enjoy someone's post on #Mastodon go ahead and click the star. If someone tells you that's meaningless because there's no #algorithm, ignore them. Sure, boost the post too if you want others to also see the post, but don't think telling someone you like what they posted is somehow unimportant. In real life I don't tell someone, "good job," or "well said," or "I love that," for the sake of some algorithm, I do it because I'm human and they are too. It's fundamental to being truly social.
Mastodon feels a lot like the 2005-2010 blogging scene.
