High up in the Rocky Mountains - at around 3,000 metres - live the bristlecone pines. Some of these are among the world's "oldest known and confirmed living non-clonal organisms". The oldest tree has been alive for over 4,800 years.

I went for a walk amongst them once, and it was - in all ways - a breathless experience. They aren't much to look at, but they are probably the toughest hombres I've ever met.

Today it looked like this, as seen from Reykjavík. The houses in the foreground are Bessastaðir, where the president of Iceland lives during his presidency.

Stairz — Nicolas Hoizey photography

I tried several shots of the Center, with various angles and longer or shorter exposures, and all of a sudden I saw these areas of color that stood out well from where I was (blue in the upper left, yellow in the lower left, red in the lower right), and I gave it a shot. I then enhanced the effect a bit in Lightroom, but the main thing came from the shot.
