I am...
artist, asexual, cat person, engineer, non-binary, sewist (relative beginner), writer ... in alphabetical order because I didn't know which one has priority in terms of my identity.

I greet dogs before I greet the humans on the other end of the leash. (I sometimes forget to greet the humans.)

A couple of coworkers are sick. At work. And while they're wearing a mask while actually working, they are taking the mask off to eat.

I have no idea if it's covid or not, but covid went around work back in May and everyone came to work sick until they got a positive covid test, at which point they'd infected a bunch of people already. And I would have caught it in the lunchroom, because we all have to take the masks off to eat.

The supervisor told them to go home, but they won't. We do have paid sick days. Not a lot, but some. So instead of them using a few of their sick days they'd rather make other people sick.

Argh.

What's happening over there?

#caturday

Last two days of my vacation, then I have to go back to work.

I have done a whole bunch of writing, and even a couple of days of drawing! Haven't drawn anything in ages, so I'm glad to get that pencil moving again.

Spent the majority of my vacation on the couch and it was *awesome*. Although my cats might be confused when I go back to work Monday, they like having my legs to pile onto for warmth when it was naptime.

"Libraries aren't just a place to obtain books for free. They're one of the few public spaces left in our society where you're allowed to exist without the expectation of spending money."

Oops, I did it again. Hit a milestone in the story and now I have no idea what the immediate next scene is.

This past week has been consistently high wordcounts every day (and by high I mean anything over 1000 words).

Giving myself permission to ramble has been incredibly important for this story, because there's this barrier that says scenes must have conflict and excitement, and that's not the type of story I'm writing here! What comes out once I claim to be rambling is usually good so far; only a couple of times I've deleted once I got moving again. At least I think it's good. Not action-y most of the time, but letting the characters interact and develop their friendships, and that's the point of this story. Yeah, a lot of scenes are them chilling in the evening and chatting.

That milestone I mentioned is an emotional milestone; physically not much happened, by itself it's trivial, but knowing what came before makes it important.

Anyhow, time to ramble in the story instead of here.

This is a fascinating article on #Ajami, a system of using a modified Arabic script to write various languages from West #Africa including "Wolof, Hausa, Fula, Mandinka, Swahili, Amharic, Tigrigna, and Berber." https://www.bu.edu/articles/2022/fallou-ngom-discovers-ajami-african-writing-system/

Anthropologist Fallou Ngom and other African scholars introduced Ajani, a writing of trade, medicine, poetry, science, and anticolonial resistance, to Western academia, disproving the colonialist lie that Black communities south of the Sahara had no writing systems of their own.

A note in Ajami, a modified Arabic script, from Fallou Ngom's late father opened the door to a lifetime of discovery in African language and history.

The Brink

Wrote well over 2000 words yesterday - I think about 2800? Lots, anyway. And quite a few days this past week have been similarly wordy. I think it may be partly because I am on vacation and have time, and partly because I'm starting to feel nerves due to deciding that I will start posting this fanfic next week, and those nerves are translating into energy which sometimes goes into research rabbit holes and sometimes into words.

My friend who is reading it has really helped settle some of those nerves, though. Hopefully people who aren't that friend, and who do know the show it's tied to, also enjoy it. Because I am definitely having a great time writing it!

Somehow, I have written 77,703 words since late September on this project. But it's just a silly fanfic, yeah.

I am trapped under two cats
#cats

Went to a close friend's place for dinner the other day and spent two hours talking myself hoarse about my writing project. That was fantastic and I needed it

Despite it being a fanfic for a show he'd never heard of, he was interested to read it! And also started giving some great feedback! Heck he gave me some search terms during our discussion, before reading it, for things I had been using in the story without knowing what they were called, so I can put a bit more depth into those aspects of the story. ("Here you go, have another rabbit hole...")

Cat cuddle pile! All four cats are with me on the couch. (The ginger tabby is my parents' cat, visiting for a couple of weeks; the other three are mine.)
