Recieved a mailer about "fighting tax fraude" and a picture of a homeless encampment on the front. So I was suspicious.
From influencewatch:
Building a Better California is "widely speculated to have formed to combat a proposed wealth tax on billionaires in California"
Nothing in the text of the proposed ballot measure is explicit. The "poison pill" is the text that any new tax must both go to the general fund and "conform with current state tax policy" - which would kill the billionair tax through some oblique conflicts (the billionair tax is earmarked for healthcare, conflicts with "current tax policy" because there is a previous ballot measure that the majority of the general fund must be used for education)
So this measure would kill not only the proposed billionaires tax, but _any_ future special purpose tax. Horrid.
deeply disturbing... and according to the local story linked here, she lost her home, car, and dog while locked up
