Good morning Melbourne!

It has come to our attention some rail enthusiasts and beyond are calling the new Metro Tunnel the “Munnel”.

Just so we’re all clear on this: don’t fucking call it the munnel. Ever. Thank you.

You may have noticed that SodaStream is on the Boycott Israel list.

I cannot get through my day without carbonated water, so I've obviously got a soda stream (which I was gifted a few years back)

However, I do NOT give them my money for gas refills or flavours, and I most certainly don't give them money for spares when the shitty plastic inevitably breaks

I use a third-party gas refill service (gasguyz.com.au here in Melbourne)

I 3D print spares (The original carbonation lever broke years ago, I just 3D print a replacement every so often).

You'll have a friend with a 3D printer, I guarantee it. Replacement part models are easily available on the web.

SodaStream make far more money from refills, replacements and consumables than they do from the original, cheap, breakable unit. But you don't have to miss out on fizzy water. Just give someone else the money.

Word to the wise.

Boycott Israel - A Simple Boycott List

A simple boycott list of Israeli and global firms active in Israel, guiding purchases to pressure the government and uphold international law.

Edit: Thank you to everyone who shared this.
Someone has responded to me with an excellent offer that solves this problem.

——

Before I go giving money to strangers on Facebook, I have a problem.

I found out on the evening of December 19th that we have to have a laptop for our 12yo when he starts school at the end of January. School office was closed on December 20th.

Fortunately, they've gone from insisting on shitty Windows laptops, to a "BYOD" model, where they prefer Macs (!) since our last child attended.

It looks like I can pick up something basic & new with Windows 11 ("no S or X versions!"), for around $600-$700, or a used Macbook Air M1 for around $600 on Fb marketplace.

(I can't afford to buy the damn thing, but that's neither here nor there right now).

I would *prefer* he have a Macbook (because he's *less* likely to use it for gaming, and I'm less likely to lose sleep over maintaining it), but as I said at the top, before I go giving money to strangers, would anyone I know in #Melbourne have an M1 (or higher) that's in good nick, that they'd be willing to part with?

Or – crazy idea, I know – we could 100% remove all public funding from the fucking parasites. If they want to be private, they can do it on their own without government funding.
