Have you been wishing masonry layouts would just hurry up and arrive in CSS?? Well, happy holidays!

Introducing CSS Grid Lanes

Itโ€™s here, the future of masonry layouts on the web!

Fit width text in 1 line of CSS
`text-grow: per-line scale;`

Another small update to Wakamai Fondue!

I cleaned up the yellow in-site navigation bar, but more importantly, I added some config options to the generated stylesheet:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Toggle `unicode-range` for your `@font-face` rule
๐Ÿ‘‰ Produce dedicated classes for the variable instances
๐Ÿ‘‰ Include `@supports` rules for newer syntaxes
๐Ÿ‘‰ Make the CSS "namespace" optional

I might clean up the UI a bit more, but for now I'm happy with the dev power it gives you!

For spacing values on a website โ€“ is it better to respond to font-size, or available space, or stick with static units?

You don't have to choose! Sometimes the best unit in CSS is a combination โ€“ with calc()/clamp() or min()/max() or round() & other math functions.

The Best CSS Unit Might Be a Combination

We don't have to choose between px and rem for spacing

I've been exploring different ways to interact with a user preferred font size. Could the max() function work better than a classic px-to-em conversion?

"I think that CSS is the dao of the web. It is water that flows." - @johnallsopp at CSS Day conference

John wrote one of the most important articles in the history of the web, and it will forever be relevant so long as the web exists: https://alistapart.com/article/dao/

A Dao of Web Design

Web designers often bemoan the malleable nature of the web, which seems to defy our efforts at strict control over layout and typography. But maybe the problem is not the web. Maybe the problem is โ€ฆ

A List Apart
