On October 14, the EU will vote on the so-called Chat Control — a dystopian law which will require messaging apps to facilitate mass surveillance.

President of Signal Foundation Meredith Whittaker says, if the EU adopts the law, her organisation will pull their Signal app from the EU market.

I am both angered and worried by the prospects. Encrypted communication is absolutely crucial, when I speak to sources in countries where people are killed for talking.
