I'm a generalist who enjoys a challenge, and I'm way too fascinated by build systems. In my free time I play VR games and ride bikes with my son.

I know it’s an obvious thing to say right now, but the absence of urgency to electrify everything is obviously a failure of judgement by our governments.

We’re all paying for it.

Mastodon feels like the future the 1980s promised us. "Oh look, a post from my friend at hacker.space, and what a funny comment from some guy on gaysex.cloud, perhaps I should follow them, they seem witty."

It feels like you could turn a corner and wind up in a tearoom filled with furries discussing existentialism. Across the street are anarchists arguing loudly with socialists about how best to stick it to the capitalists.

Just down the way is a photographer who only takes pictures of bees.

I never thought aws support could get worse but now i have to prove the support staff that the answer they copied from an LLM is a hallucination and that the configuration options / processes they are talking about don't exist.

Someone captured the moment an Australian reporter was shot by a rubber bullet at the anti-ICE protests in LA.

It’s wildly concerning that a country which prides itself on freedom of the press is now shooting at journalists.

Also, watch closely. She was away from the crowds. She was clearly reporting and no threat to anyone.

Yet the agent took direct aim & shot.

This is enraging. This is state sanctioned violence. This is an attack on the press. An attempt to silence.

Keep speaking out.

Researchers uncover how the Facebook app used localhost STUN communication with the browser to track visited websites in Covert Web-to-App Tracking via Localhost on Android. This trick works even if the user browses in incognito mode and uses a VPN.

The Meta Pixel uses a technique known as SDP Munging to insert the _fbp cookie contents to the SDP "ice-ufrag" field, resulting in a Binding Request STUN message sent to the loopback address as the following figure shows. This data flow cannot be observed using Chrome's regular debugging tools (such as DevTools).

<<The boss of Australian gas giant Woodside, Meg O’Neill, has attacked young people who take an ideological stand against fossil fuels, suggesting they are hypocrites for ordering cheap online consumer goods “without any sort of recognition of the energy and carbon impact of their actions”.>>

🤔 gee, who has been telling young people about the link between consumerism and fossil fuels? have our political leaders been warning them to cut back? have the CEOs of fossil fuel companies been urging them to cut back? has popular culture started to reflect more sensible values? have our media been starting balanced conversations about urgent issues, or are they still just churning out click-bait stories about inconsequential BS?

for anyone not planning to read the linked article, i should quote some more here:

<<O’Neill was speaking during the gas industry’s annual conference in Brisbane, where the resources minister, Madeleine King, said the government was working to enhance exploration for gas while improving the approvals process for companies.

Climate advocates and the Greens leader, Larissa Waters, criticised the statement, saying it was “laughable” that a fossil fuel executive should blame young people for the climate crisis.>>

could not agree more.

yet another female showing that women are sometimes <old white men in suits> in disguise. trojan women.

the women in question are not the problem — the problem is tokenism instead of true diversity.

Woodside boss says young people ‘ideological’ on fossil fuels while ‘happily ordering from Temu’

Meg O’Neill tells energy industry conference that individual consumers’ role in driving emissions is ‘missing’ in conversations about fossil fuels

In my fiction story I have a plot point about a computer system programmed using "natural language" -- because it's core "mission" is a set of statements in the English language, it gets very very ... lets say "off message" over time.

I was worried this wasn't realistic. Who would be so silly?

Well. Not gonna worry about that anymore.
