We recently updated twonly. Here are the two biggest updates:
1. Backups: Rebuilt to handle larger files, letting you keep all your contacts and messages.
2. Memories Viewer: Completely redesigned so you can select, export, or favorite multiple images at once and to be more performant.
This also sets up our next features: password(less) recovery and encrypted cloud backups. We also fixed several bugs to make messaging much more reliable.

This week, I started working on my master’s thesis.
The overall goal is to increase trust between users in order to better protect against phishing [0], user errors (e.g., SignalGate [1]), or a potential active MITM attack [2].
With this established trust, features such as decentralized user discovery or account recovery can then be offered without requiring a phone number.

In a phishing attack, unknown actors are apparently attempting to gain access to accounts of journalists and activists on the Signal messaging service. We explain how the attack works and how you can protect yourself against it.
Version 0.1.3 of twonly, the European Snapchat alternative, was released 🎉.
New: Video stabilization and crop/rotate images before sending.
Improved: Better visibility of the verification badge. Verify your contacts to prevent something like SignalGate.
And of course many issues got fixed.

@diday Voll cool, dass es die Veranstaltung auch in Darmstadt gibt!
Die Snapchat Alternative @twonly, wird auch in Darmstadt entwickelt und jetzt gibt es noch einen Antrag der Koalition, dass die Stadt auch auf Mastodon kommen soll [1]. Freut mich, dass die Digitale Souveränität auch in Darmstadt seinen Weg findet 💪
