Registry Service Provider — We're Partnering with CORE:We're pleased to confirm that we have a signed contract with our Registry Service Provider: we'll be partnering with the CORE Association. CORE are a Geneva-based non-profit with 24 TLDs under management and a wide network of partners and members across the registry space. They'll be providing our technical registry services, and we also have a data escrow provider lined up.We chose CORE for a lot of reasons, but the big ones: they're a non-profit association like us, they're based in Switzerland, and they have a deep commitment to Universal Acceptance. For those unfamiliar, Universal Acceptance is the principle that all valid domain names and email addresses should work everywhere — which matters a lot when the internet still largely assumes ASCII and English. We think the internet should work regardless of your native language or script, and CORE shares that commitment. Decolonising the internet, one TLD at a time.Application Update:The application is progressing well — the bulk of it is done. What's taking up most of my time right now is the financial side, and I want to be honest about why: crowdfunding is genuinely complicated from a tax and accounting standpoint, and getting that documentation into a shape that satisfies an ICANN financial review has been a significant undertaking. Who knew just how complicated VAT is when charged on a product that may or may not be delivered and will be refunded if not(?) I had assumed it was established case law, given the prevalence of crowdfunding but I think there's a reason many successful campaigns come from jurisdictions where things are a little less regulated. Our financial modelling is also getting more precise as contracts come into place. That's the area where we've felt weakest, and we're working to make it as solid as possible. The current picture: combining our existing funds with personal loans from board members to the organisation (a significant portion of our personal savings — not repayable until after delegation, at the earliest), and accounting for current and projected expenditure, we're projected to remain in the positive through to the end of Q1 2028, which is ICANN's earliest projected delegation date. We recently received some wonderful news from ICANN; the ASP support is being extended to not only be a 75% discount on the application fee but also that we will have reduced fees for operating the TLD in the first three years from delegation, which eases the pressure significantly. We are actively looking for grants and are always open to donations via our Ko-Fi. We're also exploring routes to accept tax-deductible donations — if you're considering a larger contribution, get in touch at [email protected] and we'll work out what we can do.The Less Glamorous Stuff (That Matters):A meaningful chunk of our operational time has also gone into things that don't make for exciting updates but are genuinely important. Running a live Kickstarter has more ongoing administrative overhead, especially with regards to GDPR, than most people might expect. More significantly, we've been intentionally building out our systems with NIS2 compliance in mind. For those in the audience who work in infosec: yes, we know. Belgium's implementation of NIS2 requires all registry operators to be compliant regardless of size, staffing, or annual turnover, unlike in some other countries, there's no small-operator carve-out. This means that we'll need to be certified by delegation. Rather than treat it as a box to tick later, we're designing our infrastructure and processes with that in mind now, which is the right call but does represent real time investment. For those less familiar with NIS2: it's a stringent EU cybersecurity directive, and meeting it is a meaningful undertaking. We'd rather get it right early than scramble later. Thankfully almost all our members have or currently work in regulated industries so we don't need much external support with this. Trademarks:Our trademark applications for
