something i'm noticing with mastodon is that clout-chasing culture is so far almost nonexistent here. you know that birdsite dynamic where people who think of themselves as bigger just straight-up ignore thoughtful interactions from people whom they perceive as smaller? as though they're better than you, and interacting with you might reduce their cachet? SO glad to be rid of that toxicity for the time being. hopefully it doesn't migrate here once the famous people catch on. 🙄

I knew Twitter was terrible for a long time but with a little distance I'm realizing that it was even worse than I thought. We collectively (and sometimes by design) normalized a lot of toxic behaviors and then kept repeating them in an almost robotic fashion.
