Without mentioning any consideration of the damages the current #genAI tools are having on our societies and democracies? Sigh.

Also, this does not address the underlying issues of the way that the current #ResearchAssessment and funding is driven by neoliberal values. Something of which these blogposts also reek off..

I think that this should indeed be public knowledge as we already pay for this with public money via the universities. The same is not true for the creative industry, including many individual artists that need to make a living off these creative works. But instead of addressing this issue of copyright (the fact that people don't have access to knowledge that is generated with their money) the blogposts are instead complaining that #AI should be exempted?

Copypasta from LinkedIn:

Recent blogs by KnowledgeRights21 blaming copyright and the creative industry for knowledge hampering instead of, for example, the enormous bureaucracy in place in Horizon Europe / European Commission grants is really something.

Don't get me wrong, I think #copyright should be reformed and in its current form is indeed strange - why can we copyright research articles for example?

Good thing we didn't. I'd say that was a win for "open science." The hypocrisy. Maybe don't use your power to order researchers to retract papers you don't find to be sufficiently full of hype if you claim to care about "open research"?

I see that Fernando Pereira is donating to OpenReview (with a public announcement) because he apparently cares about "open science" or "open research" or some such. That's news to me.

He is the Google VP who wrote a condescending, bizarre, what was meant to be anonymous, "privileged and confidential" letter which was then sent to the HR department, instructing me and my coauthors to retract our Stochastic Parrots paper.

It’s publication day! 🎉
