Over the years, I have scoured the internet for various versions of the Mac HIG PDFs. Here is my collection so far.

Some neat ones include HIGs for Mac OS 8 & a preliminary Mac OS X version from the Public Beta.

These HIGs contain general desktop guidelines that still apply today & that you can't find in the modern HIG.

Please retoot! Everyone should read these.

Hiring a software engineer in their late 40s:

Pros:
* Understands your stack better than you do after glancing through the repo for five minutes.
* Will rewrite said stack 2x as fast, and half as buggy if you let them.

Cons:
* Gives zero fucks.
* Knows we're not *really* like family here.
* No, seriously, absolutely zero fucks given.

Do not cite the deep magic to me, product manager, I was there when it was written.

@overcastfm otherwise I have to say that the improvements in usability of the new version have been astounding.

I did notice one oddity, which was maybe a design choice but: if I tap a new episode notification to go to the episode, the “… “ is missing the “go to this podcast” option, and I think that’s the only time I’ve seen that be the case. And yet I often want to do that and wonder why it’s missing there.

@overcastfm I’m still seeing my queue being reordered, I think when I add new episodes to it. I don’t remember this ever happening pre-rewrite; is there a way to get similar behavior with the new version? It’s crazy-making.

I’d be fine with just an option to make the queue entirely manually ordered. For now I need to basically have nothing in my queue so I don’t lose my ordering.

“Come to think of it, denigrating the worth of a soldier’s service based on whether he deployed to a war zone is… kind of like denigrating the worth of a woman’s citizenship based on whether she happens to have children.”

Pretty good.

So, Rebecca Solnit wrote this 3 years ago, but if the shoe fits, it's forever in fashion. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/may/28/centrism-insidious-bias-unjust-status-quo
Stop glorifying ‘centrism’. It is an insidious bias favoring an unjust status quo

The notion of a neutral and moderate middle is a prejudice of people for whom the system is working, against those for whom it’s not

The Guardian
@tjdraper @overcastfm same here. Episodes jump around my queue at random times; it used to just be when I added stuff to the queue. It seems to be the same episodes every time. I wish there was just a “manually sorted” option for a playlist and that the app would never change what I set up, although I assume this is a bug and not by design.
@overcastfm this keeps happening and I think it may be because the queue re-sorts itself according to its setting, whereas before it was or could be manual. I hope a manual option is coming back because otherwise that feature isn’t very useful to me.

Refuse Uline

Uline is a purposely political company aligned with extreme right-wing ideology. Despite their politics, millions of small businesses and artists still use ULINE completely unaware of what their dollars are supporting. This needs to end now. Let's refuse to use uline.
