Calling all @playdate devs!
I'm currently in the middle of planning this year's Playdate Community Awards.
If you want your game nominated for best soundtrack, I HIGHLY recommend you jump on the playdate wiki & add to this table.
https://playdate-wiki.com/wiki/Soundtracks
2022 has 35 items listed.
2023 only has 4.
You don't NEED to be on this list to be nominated, but we do point people to this page during the voting.
So your chances go WAY up if you're on it.

I just lost my #Playdate in the woods in the middle of nowhere on a pitch black night. I thought, “I won’t lose it, It’s YELLOW! The plants covering it are yellow-GREEN, totally different! And I bet my phone light is just as good as a flashlight!” So I confidently walked away and left it.
Wrong on all counts. Happy ending: I did find it again in the end, AND proved I don’t have a heart condition!
This trailer for #OutsideParties better be worth it.
Hello Developers! Let's get the word out about your game, app, or hardware and continue pushing the Playdate hype train! Please fill out the form below to participate in the next Playdate Community Direct! Our goal is to give you a platform to show off your game, app, or hardware any way you'd like, in under 3 minutes, and of course, get it to as many eyes as possible. If you haven't seen a Direct-style video before, it's typically a live presentation on YouTube of video game trailers or presentations of upcoming games to hype up the fans and generate excitement. These directs are for ALL Playdate games, Itch releases and Catalog Releases. The goal is to again, get as much exposure to your games as possible! For now, my plan is to release a direct at the beginning of each quarter: January, February, and March (Q1) April, May, and June (Q2) July, August, and September (Q3) October, November, and December (Q4) With that being said, the next Playdate Community Direct will be shown on October 5th, 2023. Therefor, for this direct, your game, app, or hardware must be planned for release on or after October 5th, 2023. Now, let's talk about rules and ideas on what to submit. Typically, directs show video game trailers for new games coming out. However, you can be creative with this and show off your game in any way you'd like, such as developer interviews, behind the scenes content, or any other ideas you have. You can submit any video under 2 minutes (if you need more time than this for something bigger, reach out to me). Generally, the best trailers pack it all inside one short and sweet package. You can even submit quick teasers if that is all you have. One of my favorite teasers was the Corporate Tax Evader 2 Teaser at the Community Awards. It was only 15 seconds long! If you need inspiration, check out: The First Playdate Community Direct: https://youtu.be/dU_6qfiDft4 The Playdate Community Bundle Direct: https://youtu.be/DSpDlIAwQLE Nintendo Direct Indie Showcases: https://www.youtube.com/@NintendoAmerica Wholesome Games Directs: https://www.youtube.com/@WholesomeGames The deadline to submit this form (and your video) will be September 18th, 2023 at Midnight PST. Trailer Ratings: Please keep your trailer suitable for all audiences. Our show will also follow the vibe Panic follows, so if you have explicit content or language, please save it for your game and do not include it in your trailer. Beeping language may be suitable if you think it's absolutely necessary, but please don't go overboard. Use your best judgement. If you have any questions about this please reach out to me. End Cards: I recommend writing your potential release date at the end of the trailer, or a simple "Coming Soon" or "Coming This Summer", unless your marketing strategy is to be completely mysterious :) Feel free to plug your website, socials, company, etc. if you feel the need. Music: Please do not use copyrighted music. You must use music that is copyright free so that our video does not get copyright strikes. You can find many free-to-use or copyright-free tracks using google or, if you want a quick solution, Youtube Studio has an audio library with free-to-use music and SFX! Video File Specifications: Preferred file delivery resolutions: 1920 x 1080 (1080p) - Use this resolution only if you know how to properly scale your pixels. To reach this resolution, you may have captured or upressed footage at 1600 x 960 and added bars around your footage OR you are creatively cropping certain parts of your footage to fit 1080. 400 x 240, 800 x 480, 1200 x 700, 1600 x 960: Use these resolutions if you are editing captured raw footage from simulator or mirror, and want to deliver me the raw pixels only. I will properly upscale your footage to 1080p and add bars around them to preserve pixels. DO NOT send me 720p files. The pixels will not upscale correctly to my 1080p file. The goal here is to preserve the pixels in your video at all costs. Let me know if you are having issues upscaling pixels correctly. I mainly use Davinci Resolve and make sure to scale only by whole numbers (1x, 2x, 3x, or 4x) using Nearest Neighbor scaling. This topic definitely gets complicated so don't be shy and reach out to me with any questions or feedback on this. Frame Rate: 30fps or 60fps I participated in the last direct, can I submit something new for this one? Yes, but please make sure your trailer is showing off something significantly new from your last trailer. Use Zelda for example. With each release of a Zelda game, they begin with a cryptic teaser, then a larger cinematic trailer w/ a bit of gameplay, then a full blown gameplay trailer. My point is that there is a progression here, so as long as you are adding to the release and mystery surrounding your game, we love it. "DLC" Trailers? You may submit a teaser/trailer for an already released game ONLY if you are releasing an update that has a significant amount of added content, enough to warrant a DLC etc. Games that do this deserve some hype, but please do not abuse this as well. Please contact me at [email protected] or reach out to me on Discord if you have any thoughts or questions. I also have my own discord server here: https://discord.gg/3e7kcxcpHx Thank you! - GantProdux of Tiny Yellow Machine
Nearly there with enemy shadows. A few more tweaks, but it's definitely working better than polygons.
