Is Dan Andrews being replaced by a younger clone of himself? Is this a 'Moon (2009)' situation? Is Dan Andrews being 'Moon (2009)'-ed right now?

#ActivityPub is super cool once you see it in action.

For instance, you can visit the new StarTrek lemmy server here: https://startrek.website/c/startrek. Looks like a reddit sub with posts, threaded comments, upvotes, &c.

OR you can follow the same server on Mastodon ‪@startrek‬.
Every thread and comment shows up as a boosted post.

Cool, right? Now, say you find a comment that you want to reply to. Post through your favorite Mastodon app, and that feeds right back to the thread on the #Lemmy server! 🤯

Update on the Reddit protest:

6392 subreddits have now gone dark of the 7265 subreddits overall. [EDIT: I've been informed in the replies that it's not subreddits overall, but rather subreddits that said they would go private. So the next paragraph can safely be ignored, but I'll leave this toot up as a monument to my ignorance xD]

Notably, that overall number of subreddits that exist has grown from 6625 when I first checked today. Presumably subreddit are being set up to circumvent the protest. Disgruntled users that disagree with protest? Reddit staff?

With the current Reddit happenings, I finally got around to Cory Doctorow's seminal post about the 'enshittification' of platforms. It's worth the full read!

https://pluralistic.net/2023/01/21/potemkin-ai/#hey-guys

> Here is how platforms die: first, they are good to their users; then they abuse their users to make things better for their business customers; finally, they abuse those business customers to claw back all the value for themselves. Then, they die.
>
> I call this enshittification, and it is a seemingly inevitable consequence arising from the combination of the ease of changing how a platform allocates value, combined with the nature of a "two sided market," where a platform sits between buyers and sellers, holding each hostage to the other, raking off an ever-larger share of the value that passes between them.
