Braving the Bank Holiday heat to visit the Lions At Large in Cheltenham today. Now back home, dying of heat exhaustion. But it's for charity and the sculptures are really good; the Wild In Art trails are always excellent.

A North Walian oddity for today's #StandingStoneSunday

Parc Bach is either the remains of a prehistoric chambered tomb with some modern additions, or a weird 'druidical folly'. Set in peaceful woods on the shore of Llyn Padarn, close to Castell Dolbadarn. Either way, it's a lovely setting.

Visited June 2012 at the start of a walk up Yr Wyddfa.

Monmouthshire's only stone circle for today's #StandingStoneSunday

Gray Hill circle is probably the remains of a cairn circle or kerbed cairn. There are two tall standing stone outliers heading uphill. The site has great views down to the Hafren/Severn.

This visit June 2012.

Some Monmouthshire chambered tomb action for today's #StandingStoneSunday

Gaer Llwyd ('Grey Fort') Neolithic chambered tomb near Usk. In folklore the tomb was the result of a game of megalithic quoits between Twm Sion Catti and the Devil.

Visited June 2012, when there was a donkey living in the field.

Another North-Walian obscurity for #StandingStoneSunday - Cwm Eigiau (possible) chambered tomb.

Speculatively identified as the remains of a Neolithic chambered tomb, nestled in Cwm Eigiau beneath the high ridges of Y Carneddau mountains.

Visited May 2012 on descent from Carnedd Llewelyn and Pen yr Helgi-Du.

A North Walian obscurity for today's #StandingStoneSunday

Clogwyn-yr-Eryr (possible) stone row, high on a ridge in the foothills of Y Carneddau mountains. There are views to Hafodygorswen cairn circle in the valley, Pen-y-Gaer Iron Age hillfort and numerous high level Bronze Age cairns on the mountains. The tallest stone has drill holes and has been reused as a gate post at some time.

Passed on my way up to Carnedd Llewelyn, May 2012.

One of my very favourite sites for today's #StandingStoneSunday

Moel ty Uchaf ('Highest House on the Bare Hill') is a superb cairn circle set in an elevated position on the foothills of Y Berwyn mountain range above Llandrillo. It has extensive views across the Dee towards all the main mountain ranges of North Wales from Aranau to Y Carneddau.

This visit May 2012 on my way up to Cadair Bronwen.

One of the many Neolithic chambered long barrows around Y Mynyddoedd Duon (the Black Mountains) in South Walesfor today's #StandingStoneSunday offering.

Pen-y-Wyrlod above the Afon Gwy/River Wye; the long barrow itself has been ploughed down, leaving these stones from its chamber exposed.

This visit May 2012.

Summer Moors:

A wander to some new-to-me sites on Dartmoor, made possible by the Devon council-supported bus services running from Yelverton and Tavistock to Princetown and beyond.

Hart Tor cairn circle; Down Ridge stone circle near Hexworthy; Sherberton stone circle; one of the cairns with cists on Royal Hill.
