MSc Digital Sociology Postgrad
My research focus is in studying social media to investigate the spread of hate groups and prevent mass anti-minority violence in the U.S.

I'm also a D&D nerd and an animal lover!
I post news and awareness raising content, resources for researchers, and occasional palette cleansers

@pdbrooker And as far as sociology goes, maybe if you put me in a focus group which is a jam session with all of your instruments - after we all use them to jam together, will it affect the way we bond? the way we discuss topics before vs. afterwards like our rapport and charitability on social issues? would it affect our outlook on society? I think there's something there, when I jam with friends and strangers I certainly feel a unique social feeling I can't quite describe.
@pdbrooker I'm super interested to see where this takes you. How we construct meaning around multi-sensory experiences, and how our interaction with sound changes when we're experiencing ourselves making sounds, making sounds with others, etc. I think people in the #neuroscience field would have a research question ideas that could excite you for future interdisciplinary research projects on how your tools affect the way brains react to seeing + hearing + feeling + all at the same time. 🧠
@disruptnorms That's awesome. I will definitely check out Claude.ai, never heard of it before.
@byteseu "Van Hollen also claimed the Trump administration has committed to paying El Salvador $15 million to detain prisoners, including Abrego Garcia. He claimed that $4 million has been “paid out” so far."
@disruptnorms If it's not too much a bother: Do you know any advice/resources for someone who is a complete beginner to #GitHub? For the life of me I can't figure out why, but everytime someone links me GitHub websites, it overwhelms and overstimulates the heck out of me. I even took 1 year of intro programming and still struggle with this today, I want to be in the Cool GitHubbers Club 😔
@pdbrooker That's very cool! What type of research questions are in your mind?
We're glad to have you in the sociology field! Feel free to treat me as a connection, It can be hard to find activity on Mastodon, but a few of us are here.

@ndporter That's alright! I already have a transcript maker that takes audio/video to text, but it's great to have additional resources with coding, especially since graduating has left me disowned by most other paywalled tools! Even just having an NVivo alternative is a huge morale boost for me.
@adub Sorry that happened. "It's not about trans" reminds me of a talk I did on anti-transgender violence in the U.S. One of the tenured professors in the room listened to my whole explanation of anti-transgender groups and their direct ties to death and dehumanization, during Q&A asks "Have you established that *transgenderism* people are experiencing this issue at scale?" Immediately after I explained how that term is transphobic... Somehow their grammar is always as bad as their takes
