people always tell me "mathematical notation is just like jargon, its just more efficient." no, mathematical notation is not like jargon

1. jargon are words. anyone can put a word into a search engine and find a glossary of terms explaining what that jargon word means in some context. you can't do that with math notation unless you already know math notation

2. jargon is almost never overloaded like mathematical notation is. the same letter or piece of punctuation can mean wildly different things in any given context and can even vary based on the *font the symbol is displayed in* inside one context

imagine if someone in software engineering used the symbol ⍼ instead of "garbage collector", except it only maps to "garbage collector" if it's written in sans serif. if it's written with serif, it means "compute shader" instead. but if its in comic sans it means "SIMD divide"

and also 98% of the time they used the ⍼ symbol it was inserted as a picture, not a copy/pastable unicode glyph. *that's* math notation

GTA 6 Reportedly Now In Final Stages Of Development, As Workers Speak Out Against Return-To-Office Plans

The game is in the home stretch of development, it seems, and workers are being mandated to come back to the office.

📣 Hi all. I'm #lookingforwork in the games industry or any other creative industry.

I loved my job and learned so much but sadly, everyone in DGF is looking for new jobs as our wonderful studio is halting production.

I have a lot of experience across many different industries. I am open to remote roles: full-time, part-time, contract and freelance.

curious about something. wanna see how big the #GameDev community on mastodon is. are you a game developer? plz boost for reach

EDIT: i cannot prescribe that anyone is a gamedev or in what capacity. if you don't self identify as a gamedev, vote no, if you self identify as a professional gamedev even if you're doing it alongside a dayjob, pick the professional category. there are no wrong answers

Well, it seems it was my turn to be fired.

From now on I will be looking for a #remote work in Europe (I live in Hamburg, Germany)

My recent XP is with Unity/C#. But I have done C, old school C++, and now I am learning #godot.

I have worked as dev, lead, engineer manager, game director and CTO.

I used to do some engine programming but my forte is gameplay.

At the moment, I am looking mainly for a programming position. I want to get my hands as dirty as possible again.

Boost is appreciated!

RIP Bozo 🤡
I was wondering if there's any decent Indie Dev Discords? Would like to be part of a place where people can share what they're working on and can just chill out.

I've been having a hard time getting any games released this year. I just ended up in the cycle of constantly coming up with ideas without making anything. So to counteract it I made the simplest game possible and have just published it on itch!

Is it original? No. Is it fun? I don't think so. But it's finished and now that I have the basics of Godot figured out I feel more confident working on a SLIGHTLY larger game in that engine.

Thought it would be fun to do one of those game charts people have been posting recently
