I work with Secure Development, focusing a lot on #threatmodeling. Occasionally do some red teaming.

#Steelseries is asking for destroying a headset before claiming warranty - feels insanely wasteful and is most likely illegal here in Germany 😠 #ewaste

I do a daily #Wordle challenge with one of my partners every day on discord. I just came up with a new "quantum" strategy to beat her today. Since she always starts with the same word, and you can see the "results" of each other's wordle, I can basically get that word guess for free.

But as soon as she realizes I'm using this strategy, she'll probably change that word 🀫

My company doesn't even use AWS directly but we're still affected due to Slack and other services being down.

Hej @wirsindverdi,

Last time I called, the support refused to speak English. With 1.9 million (paying?) members, statistically you should have a lot of foreign nationals as your members.

It would be more inclusive and better for representation if you could offer support in more languages. 🌎 🌍 🌏

I though these signs were pretty funny yesterday when taking a walk. Each little footpath bridge I passed had one on each side.

No worries though, I crossed without being harmed.

Minor but close to the final hurdle of de-googling myself and becoming more #selfhosted and reducing dependence on US-hosted services/companies.

πŸ—“οΈ I moved my calendar away from Google Calendar to Nextcloud + Proton. I use both, because Nextcloud keeps my contacts and I prefer as the main "hub", while Proton I need to be able to accept appointment invitations via email.

Left to do:

πŸ“« Clean up Gmail: move accounts away from using gmail where possible, maybe do one big bulk deletion of all emails. I never used this as my primary email, so shouldn't be too much of an issue.

πŸ€– Change away from google-enforced Android to a more privacy oriented alternative

Had some fun hacking with #networking / #linux today

I was able to set up my laptop act as an access point and routing all clients over a VPN.

Our PS5 has been having network issues. The store often takes a long time to load, and online required or multiplayer games struggle to connect.

We think it might be related to our ISP, so I set this up to experiment if tunneling over a VPN could avoid any potential ISP-fuckery.

Happy to say the experiment worked and we get much better connectivity over my VPN-ed network πŸŽ‰

Next step will be to put this on a static device - i.e. router (or raspberry pi probably works fine too).

Been a while but I'm still making progress on becoming more #selfhosted

Over the weekend I continued my move away from Google. I accomplished the following things:

πŸ“Š I moved all my boring office documents away from Google Docs/Drive. Now they live on my local device and on my #nextcloud instance instead. Overall it actually makes my document management more lean since I now only need the open office formats and can keep them in a single place. Before I had a mix of local open office files and google docs.

πŸ“ For basic note-taking, I also set up a synced folder for my markdown files. These I then have imported as a vault in Obsidian which I use on my phone.

βœ… I also set up Nextcloud Deck and bought the app, neat tool for Kanban-like boards. This doesn't really replace anything I used before besides maybe Trello, but I think it will work well for the typical todo-list I keep scattered around.

Europe must be able to protect and defend itself.

We are determined to act swiftly and decisively:

πŸ”Έ This month, we'll present EU leaders with legal proposals to ensure Europe’s security.

πŸ”Έ On 19 March, we'll unveil a White Paper on the Future of European Defence, followed by simplification measures.

πŸ”Έ We'll work closely with Ukraine and the defence industry to meet Ukraine's military needs.

The urgency is real. So is our resolve.

Today's progress on my US #boycott and moving towards being more #selfhosted (or using EU alternatives).

Migrated my contacts and photos from Google to my self-hosted #nextcloud.

πŸ–ΌοΈ The memories app for photos is super nice - better than Google Photos in fact. Had some minor issues with some files being tagged to the wrong date, and have this one file that somehow has become undeletable - but other than that it works well.

πŸ“” It also felt good to clean up the contacts I had on Google after 10+ years of use, though I'm looking to find a replacement Contacts app for Android. Although I'll might also just wait and see if the other non-google roms have a good alternative for it when I get to that.

Still also need to remove the data from Google and generally clean it up, but it's working well overall.

πŸ‘ So far I mostly like Nextcloud. I could see a lot of smaller organisations have good use of it as an alternative to facebook/google. I could even see myself starting a small business to support them in setting it up.
