Vandaag precies 75 jaar geleden werd in Amerika door Ewen & Purcell de waterstoflijn gemeten. Het bestaan van deze '21-centimeterlijn' werd door Henk van der Hulst in 1944 voorspeld. Dat deze lijn gemeten kon worden, eerst in Amerika en een paar maanden later ook in Kootwijk, was een groot succes voor de radioastronomie.

Tegenwoordig kunnen ook amateurs de waterstoflijn meten. Zij kwamen vorige week in Dwingeloo bijeen voor het seminar 'Waterstof in je achtertuin'. Zie https://www.camras.nl/blog/2026/seminar-waterstof-in-je-achtertuin/

Yesterday AMSAT-DL received and decoded again telemetry from Tianwen-1. I have done an updated plot of the orbital parameters with the new state vector telemetry. This shows that there have been no manoeuvres during the 3 months in which we haven't seen any signals.

Last Thursday, a group of European radio telescopes (HyperFlash / ÉCLAT) detected a flash from the repeating Fast Radio Burst that was discovered end of December. And we also detected this burst!

This is a compilation of over two million images, taken by Cees' all-sky camera over the course of 2025. There is a wealth of stuff to find in this dataset, for example one can see bright stars, Jupiter and Mars pass the camera. And of course, being taken from NL, a lot of clouds. Happy exploring!

Happy new year! During 2025 my all sky camera imaged the sky every 15 seconds, and this picture shows what happened in the sky. It shows the length of the night and day with the hourglass shape, the monthly lunar cycle with the diagonal bands, the elevation of the Sun at local noon, and lots of clouds.

Een van onze absolute hoogtepunten van 2025: we hebben met de Dwingeloo telescoop speciaal ontworpen signalen gezonden naar de maan. De echo's, o.a. ontvangen met de @astropeiler, leverden via correlatie een scherpe 'delay-doppler' kaart van het maanoppervlak op.

Een van de bekendste resultaten van de Dwingeloo Telescoop is de LAB HI Survey — de eerste complete radio-hemelkaart van onze Melkweg waarin de hoeveelheid en snelheid van neutraal waterstof te zien is. Een van onze vrijwilligers heeft van deze data nu een kleurenversie van gemaakt en die beschikbaar gesteld voor o.a. Stellarium.
