I finished the wonderful biography this morning "How to Stand Up to a Dictator" by Maria Ressa. Ressa is a hero to look up to.

What I found most interesting, however, was her ire directed at Mark Zuckerberg. It think it explains his current off the wall behavior since Trump's reelection.

According to Ressa, Zuckerberg was apparently pissed that he had to temper the spread of misinformation that was leading to genocides and dictatorships because it hurt Meta's revenue. He tried multiple times to avoid it, despite being pressured on multiple fronts.

So my guess is that he's been simmering with fury for the past 4+ years that he hasn't been able to make as much money as possible, regardless of the social costs, and is now elated that his profits could increase again. The rest of us be damned.

Talk about late stage capitalism.

Cognitive Scientists: General learning systems are great and all, but you need to add structure and heuristics in order to build human like intelligence. What about adding reasoning models to your LLMs.

AI Companies: Ya'll are crazy. We just need all the data and energy in the world and AGI will magically appear.

Cognitive Scientists: That is computationally intractable and inefficient. Biology relies on assembling modularized computations, reasoning, and heuristics for efficient intelligence.

AI Companies: Y'all are crazy and in the way. Move! We need our data and our own power plants!

DeepSeek: Hey look what happens when we add a reasoning model to our LLM. It is substantially more training efficient and relies on less data for training.

AI Companies: OMG! HOW DID CHINA OUTSMART US AT AI???

Remember, this is basically the 4chan presidency. Freezing of federal funding reeks of the "own the libs" bullying, designed to simply cause panic in those the administration deems as enemies.

They want us to panic.
They want us distracted.
They want us to feel helpless.

Don't give them what they want.

Be calculated, smart, and patient.
