#Upvotes? #Favorites? Those are going to have to be universally visible. Not hidden, as the current driving ethos prescribes as the best thing since sliced bread. There might be merit to not including those in a Twitter alternative, gods know that causes enough trouble there, but they are vital and important tools on Reddit. Any replacement must have them.

@elpeque_29 🧵word associated with it, and that is centralization. Either in reality, or in effect. I can see the glimmer of a #federated #Reddit alternative over the horizon where we truly ARE spread out everywhere, but every single instance would communicate with all the others, so that when you look something up you actually do get content from every single server. The technology theoretically supports this. We just have to use it that way.
