My favorite Ren Faire story:
I knew a guy who kept a Starfleet insignia pinned to the inside of his garb. A few times per season, some folks would come to the Faire cosplaying as a Star Trek landing party, investigating a โprimitiveโ world.
He would take them aside, show his insignia, and identify himself as a Starfleet officer on a cultural research mission. Heโd call them out for breaking the Prime Directive and ruining his research. Then heโd demand to know what ship theyโre from, and threaten to get them court martialed if they didnโt change into something less conspicuous.
There seems to be a lot of confusion about why there are so many fewer workers now than in '19.
Let me explain.
- A new sickness emerged.
- We ignored it for a while.
- We took it seriously for approximately 2 seconds.
- We let it rip.
- Lots of people died and are still dying.
- Lots more people became or are becoming disabled to mild or severe degrees, with no prognosis of recovery.
- We aren't sure what else will happen to the infected.
That's what happened and is still happening.
His unforgettable reply to the offer to fly him out of Ukraine โI need ammunition, not a rideโ is already a sentence that should be carved in stone.
I love closing out the year with this. ๐
On December 31, 1995, exactly 27 years ago today, legendary cartoonist Bill Watterson published his final 'Calvin and Hobbes' comic strip.
How beautiful and appropriate it was, and a timeless reminder of what we have before us in 2023. โค๏ธ
Happy New Year, ya'll!
