My favorite Ren Faire story:

I knew a guy who kept a Starfleet insignia pinned to the inside of his garb. A few times per season, some folks would come to the Faire cosplaying as a Star Trek landing party, investigating a “primitive” world.

He would take them aside, show his insignia, and identify himself as a Starfleet officer on a cultural research mission. He’d call them out for breaking the Prime Directive and ruining his research. Then he’d demand to know what ship they’re from, and threaten to get them court martialed if they didn’t change into something less conspicuous.

@drmaddkap Live by the bit, die by the bit
@drmaddkap I'm not sure who in this story I'm groaning more loudly about.
@drmaddkap nice story. Have seen it before, so I can take it more - for want of a better word - seriously then any other post on April Fools Day... 😬
@drmaddkap Nothing is more enjoyable than an annoying geek!
@drmaddkap this is absolutely brilliant 🤩
@drmaddkap I laughed out loud at this. I love it!
@drmaddkap ha! love it! (assuming delivered as a good natured ribbing - our ren faire welcomes all who come to play!)
@drmaddkap Depending on the circumstances one could let it pass: if the crew is TOS era this is fine, Kirk & Co beamed so often down and “blended in”, wearing their uniforms 😅
As part of the group, regardless of costume era, I’d be tempted to embrace that guy, sobbing, retconing the research into being stranded and trying to blend in and that one being finally somebody from Starfleet … after all this time 😭

@drmaddkap I laughed at this (definitely considered doing Trek at Ren Faire myself, didn't think about the PD at all 🤦‍♂️) but it's been gnawing at me all morning. What a total gatekeeping killjoy. "Welcome to Ren Faire! Have fun, but only on my terms!" Boo.

(sorry, just had to vent)
