SWOP Behind Bars is a national grassroots social justice network dedicated to the fundamental human rights of sex workers, victims of trafficking, and their communities with a focus on those currently incarcerated or seeking re-entry.

Human Trafficking Awareness Month is full of talk about “rescue.” But rescue has a budget - and not everyone benefits.

After arrests and court dates, another industry steps in - one that often mirrors policing rather than replacing it. The result isn’t healing. It’s control, compliance, and continued harm.
If we want real safety, we need to fund care - not carceral systems wrapped in compassion.

Crucial conversations are the foundation of meaningful change in the fight for sex worker rights. Navigating these discussions effectively requires active listening, empathy, and a commitment to mutual understanding. These conversations take many forms, each shaping the policies, protections, and social conditions that impact sex workers' lives. https://swopbehindbars.org/so/cePK5Sb3f/c?w=KMZU034Fd6HhTZzPmQDrQGUKfQ2aRiLR4USUoHUYFPk.eyJ1IjoiaHR0cHM6Ly9Td29wYmVoaW5kYmFycy5wb2RiZWFuLmNvbS9lL2JleW9uZC1zaWxlbmNlLXRoZS1wb3dlci1vZi1jcnVjaWFsLWNvbnZlcnNhdGlvbnMtZm9yLWNoYW5nZS8iLCJyIjoiYTAxNzY0NmUtY2ZjZC00MWYwLTg2MjYtMjc5NTMyMGRiNzUxIiwibSI6Im1haWxfbHAiLCJjIjoiODJlYjEzZjItM2VmYy00NjYxLTkwMzgtOGQ2ZTYwZmFmNWI3In0
The Power of Crucial Conversations for Change | SWOP Behind Bars stories

Crucial conversations are the foundation of meaningful change in the fight for sex worker rights. These high-stakes discussions span policy debates, personal relationships, and public narratives, significantly impacting legislation and social conditions for sex workers. Despite the discomfort they may bring, engaging in these dialogues is essential to challenge harmful policies and reshape perceptions.

The #ERA is now the law of the land and we must ensure its implementation by contacting our legislators and policy makers to let them know there is #nogoingback
#knowyourrights when engaging with law-enforcement, particularly during the #SuperBowl in #NewOrleans where there may be increased police surveillance, and interaction with law-enforcement.

Moncrief is facing charges of human trafficking and racketeering, allegedly leveraging his position to coerce women into providing sexual favors in exchange for bond services. This case underscores the need for transparency in the bail bond system and highlights the vulnerabilities faced by marginalized groups, including sex workers. https://swopbehindbars.org/so/02PBdn5yM?languageTag=en&cid=93782261-5202-4c95-bd92-0df108df6c6b
