It's a safe bet that most of us have encountered the age-old admonition to "never judge a book by its cover" at some point in our lives. There is a deep wisdom in that advice---wisdom that seems to go completely out the window as soon as a certain type of person spots a certain type of punctuation.

I came here from Twitter last year. Now I've also abandoned my Reddit. And you know what? It's exciting to find new people and meet existing friends elsewhere. I have 2 mastodon accounts and started again on tumbler after a 8 year hiatus. It's fun - you can decorate a new profile, explore, I feel like a kid in a newly opened warehouse. But a lot of this is thanks to the nice people here and elsewhere - the friendly and non toxic atmosphere is the real treasure to find.
