Teaching was my first love. Packets were my second.

I make classes to teach people how to defend themselves against hackers. In my spare time, I teach college students to compete in cybersecurity competitions, or try to take back my home automation from the cloud.

Implemented #Pangolin and liking what I see so far. Will gradually migrate services over from HAproxy to Pangolin, so I can get rid of my port-forwarding punctured firewall.

Although technically not needed, but bought the "limited supporter" key for 25 USD to support the program.

Today we’re moving on to BMW, which would go on to dominate the executive saloon market. But curiously enough, before hitting the jackpot in that sector, BMW didn’t really offer an upper-medium saloon at all. Its cars were either much bigger and much more expensive (more on that tomorrow) or smaller and cheaper like this BMW Isetta, seen here in police trim at Techno Classica 2013.

so i'm at a concert of John Williams tunes, and the hall is large enough to justify a camera to zoom in at the players and a screen to display it. but the problem is in between shots of the orchestra are #AI-generated videos.
so from the very beginning, i was annoyed. not only did this not contribute, but it distracted me from the music. i spent most of the concert thereafter either closing my eyes to avoid getting distracted, or failing to do so and only half paying attention to the music.

but that's not the worst part.
no, the worst part is John Williams's catalogue also includes the soundtrack to Spielberg's Schindler's List.
so i, a Jew, had to sit through AI images of the Holocaust.
i legitimately almost got up and left.

imagine being so full of your prompt master geniusness that you ask the AI to depict you scenes OF THE HOLOCAUST.
imagine being an executive that cares so little about the quality of the product that you approve AI generated videos OF THE HOLOCAUST.

right before introducing the soloist of the tune, the conductor mentioned how when approached to make Schindler's List, both Spielberg and Williams thought they're not good enough for such a serious job.
but i'll tell you who did think they're good enough - the person who asked the AI to create background videos OF THE HOLOCAUST

#GenAI is just making all the bad behaviours of humans worse.
I don't usually brag about expensive trips, but I just got back from the pharmacy so..

Taking the fish out for a uh, swim!

I sometimes get asked why my terminal has reminders of tools installed on my system, so I wrote a short blog post about why and how I did this.

Using fortune to reinforce habits

A tutorial showing how I use
fortune
to remind me what tools I have installed on my computer.
