Funny how anti-regulation #MAGA types love the Bald Eagle.

It nearly went extinct—saved by banning DDT, the Endangered Species Act, and habitat protection. All government action.

By 1963, only 417 nesting pairs were left. By 2007, over 10,000. Nixon signed those protections. Even he cared more than today's GOP. So when a MAGA fan flaunts an eagle, remind them: “Woke” liberals and federal regs saved that bird. Not them.

It's been 2.5 years since my dog died. I can tell something has shifted, become sediment on which I can build again. I've never grieved like that for an animal, and this week I've thought a lot about pets. They're captive mirrors for our pleasure and company, so imo we owe them great lives, including distinguishing our desires from theirs. I'm not a fan of big vet bills. I think part of our responsibility is recognizing the scale of their lives and maybe also our own mortality in the process.

@jik how about just maintain decent but not awesome routine, go to regular cleanings, Everything turns out pretty ok. That’s my strategy.

Four years under Biden and eight years under Obama I don't recall any elected official being forcibly dragged out of a press conference. I don't recall any State Nat'l Guard units being commandeered by the Federal Gov't. I don't recall the Marines being turned against US citizens.

While the actions by Trump and his appointees concern me what really scares me is the obedient and violent enforcement of these actions by police, bodyguards and soldiers. The US is at risk not because of Trump but because so many will dutifully follow his orders and will turn on their fellow citizens.

Why isn't the media talking about this? Why isn't the story that the Marines and CA Nat'l Guard actually showed up and followed extreme orders? Why isn't the story that a half dozen bodyguards and cops followed orders to forcibly drag a Calif Senator out of the room? Ask these people why they are following Trump. Ask these people if they remember the oaths they took to serve the Constitution or to Protect & Serve the public.
