News: I am now an independent consultant.

Over the last two years, I built the #AirQuality Sector into a 25-person team specialized in #AirPollution modelling (CAMx-PSAT, reduced complexity models) and measurements (the first India Sensor Evaluation & Training facility or Indi-SET; real-time source apportionment) relevant to policy-making.

We launched a black carbon report at COP28, hosted the 2024 CAMS-Net meeting with ICAS, and organised the first Indian ACSM users meeting in 2025.

Onward!

Hopefully, this shows aspiring grad students and early career researchers that:
- you can change subfields within a broad domain
- you may want to work with advisers (esp. Asst Profs) who are enthusiastic, supportive, and have time for you (they will be big names later on!)
- faculty positions aren't the be-all and end-all for research careers (though they can be very cool)

5/5 ~2015 to date at CMU, CNRS OSU-Efluve/LISA #MOPGA , QEERI (Qatar, current):

- low-cost sensor development (now-Sensit RAMP), characterization (various manufacturers), deployment

- #airpollution studies in data-scarce regions @AfriqAir and post-Hurricane Maria Puerto Rico

- increased spatial density urban air quality (Pittsburgh)

- hyperlocal pollution

4/5 postdoc #2 through scientist roles at DMT, RTI, CMU over 2007 to ~2016:
black carbon emissions, atmospheric aging, aerosol optical properties with in-situ single-particle LII (SP2) and ensemble light absorption/scattering in field (airborne, ground-based) and chamber studies
3/5 postdoc on filter-based measurements and chemical/physical characterization of climate-relevant emissions from diesel trucks in Thailand and biomass burning in the lab (adviser: then-Assistant Prof Tami Bond, later MacArthur Genius :) https://www.engr.colostate.edu/faculty/tbond/ )

While i have been in #airquality #pollution research for 20+ years now, my specialization has changed multiple times out of choice or necessity. Short thread: 1/5

Welcome to airpollution.science! I am your host/admin!

1. Post an #introduction - research area(s), other interests, where you are... But only what you feel comfortable sharing.

2. Find other AQ/atmos sci folks: https://mastodon.social/@rachelOB1/109376599860481197

3. Post as you wish. Hashtag your research posts. You could use Content Warnings (CW) for non-work stuff. Up to you. (CWs to be used at your discretion. Not my call.)

5. Only hashtags can be searched AFAIK, so use them. e.g. I post tips as #MastodonTutorial
