@campuscodi I love this type of how-to. The Elastic framework is easy enough to use at home and there are plenty of guides to help you learn basics Linux and certificate management. What you learn here can be applied to ultra-large elastic deployments at your work.

@Javvad 100% agree - also include the Restaurant Business. I got my start doing the dirty work in the bowels of a busy restaurant before moving on to tend bar. The service focus instilled then still drives me today. InfoSec and IT are service organizations.
@JimSycurity @horse @cirriustech @alyssam_infosec @SwiftOnSecurity Tay did a thread on it that detailed the basics. 1) Patch your perimeter. You’ve got to know what will be exploited first. 2) Back up important stuff 3) Maintain good AV practices on all endpoints. 4) Patch everything inside 5) call it a day and come back tomorrow to do it all over again. If you’ve found everything you can uncover - follow #trimarc security hardening guides for AD, ESX, and AxureAD/M365. Fantastic resources. https://www.hub.trimarcsecurity.com/

@tsiolkovsky @SwiftOnSecurity During the Great Recession I started a side-hustle LLC focusing on foundational aspects of ensuring good IT practices (patching, backing up, and basic email hygiene). My market was small doctor, dentist, and law practices with fewer than 5 employees. How do you get the word out? I always struggled with that.
@JimSycurity @cirriustech @alyssam_infosec @SwiftOnSecurity Totally. Houses with strong foundations can withstand all kinds of disasters.
@cirriustech @alyssam_infosec @SwiftOnSecurity I like this train of thought too. I have an “and” and a “but” comment. …but for those that struggle with getting started, “the basics” is a term that is an easy entry point to better protection, foundational sounds hard. ….and… once you have the foundation built, you can start to mature your program. This principle applies to so many things. Relationships, anxiety, exercise…the foundation starts with you and what you focus on first.
@mattmaison Yea. Phoenix for the last 20 years or so
The #Weber crew is all cleaned up and will all be put to use tomorrow. We’ve got #BBQ #BabyBackRibs, #spatchcock chickens, Mac-n-cheese, and the rest of the sides. #Thankful that the family is in a good place and I’m happy at work. Not having either one can be a heavy blow to a family. #BeNiceFirst #HackerBBQ #AnchorBrewing #ChristmasAle
@LitMoose Yep. It’s a give and take for everyone involved. We’re leaning towards a CA secured, public facing VPN portal, with static creds which the admin team only knows the first half of the passphrase - management knows the 2nd half. From a risk perspective, PCI has helped us get shit done. I love it.
