Chrome-based browser windows in incognito (or whatever they call it) mode are actually omitted from the saved screenshots. Which is sort of neat.

However, Windows is apparently unaware that Firefox Private Browsing is a thing. So all that stuff gets saved.

This Microsoft Recall thing...

While it does actually omit things that it knows are sensitive (e.g. incognito mode in recognized browsers) from the screenshots it saves, things that it does not know about are all fair game.

DuckDuckGo browser? Never heard of it. Let's hoover up all the data we can get.
Signal? 🤷‍♂️ I'll just default to saving everything I see there.

Obama on President Biden deal in Gaza.

Google did not roll this out now because it was good, they rolled it out now because Bing did it first and they panicked. They also fired all the people who had been saying, no, it's not ready yet, even though those people were right then, and they're still right now.

And Bing only rolled it out because they had a search engine nobody gave a shit about and had to try something desperate because they need eyeballs to put ads next to.

Capitalism is why we're all seeing this shit now. Capitalism.

What a curiously dispassionate post on The Verge about their parent company signing a deal with OpenAI. It’s interesting that they posted about it in a way that lumps it together with the other deals and there’s no statement from The Verge’s famously opinionated leadership about what this deal means for publishing, journalism, and the open web.

Apple really goofed on next gen CarPlay. Two years of teasing something no one is shipping, and announced partners like Mercedes are bailing out of. They’ve been completely lapped by Google’s Android Automotive where Google is going to own the whole stack in most of the new cars - even the ones that do support *old* CarPlay.
