KDE supports the "Keep Android Open" campaign
#Google will cut off independent developers to #Android if they do not register with Google first. This will kill independent platforms like @fdroidorg and severely impede FLOSS devs from creating apps for Android.
Many KDE apps are deployed for Android: KDE Connect, Itinerary, Tokodon, and there's even a test version of Krita for Android.
KDE calls on Google to reverse course and @keepandroidopen.

This is an absolutely wild story:
- a German inventor, unrelated to the defence industry, registers a patent
- the German military immediately classifies its contents as security related, including potentially endangering NATO’s nuclear deterrence, and forbids the inventor to discuss the patent with anyone
- a little while later, the patent office asks if he used any GenAI tooling to create the patent: he did
- the classification is immediately dropped as there is no more guarantee that those tools now keep a copy of that information, so there is nothing to be done about keeping this a secret
I don’t even know how to begin contemplating how completely bonkers this whole situation is.
A while ago I posted about the legendary #Duralex glasses from France, and how the workers, facing possible bankruptcy, decided to turn it into a cooperative rather than accept being sold to investors that wanted to fire a third of the people. Well. They grew their revenue by 22% and plan to break even in 2027. They crowdfunded emergency funding, planned to be €5M which they had to stop when €20M was pledged within 48 hours. YES!

In my clipboard I had some Korean I wanted to quickly translate to get the gist of it.
Alt-tabbed to Firefox and started typing translate.goo… as I thought, "but jeez, Firefox can do this locally. how do I access that outside of a web page?"
Ah ha! New tab, type in "data:text/html,<textarea>" instead and hit enter.
Paste the Korean into the text box, Ctrl-A, right click, click Translate selection… and presto!
Now I'm wondering how to invoke Firefox translations from the command line...
