One of the most diabolical trends I’ve heard about in the job market is that about a third of job postings are “ghost jobs” — where there is no intent of hiring someone for the position posted.

A survey of 1,641 hiring managers had 40% of respondents admitted to posting ghost job listings with the reasons shown in the image.

This trend feels unnecessarily cruel and disheartening for job seekers navigating the market.

Does anyone else do the neurodivergent plan of "I'm gonna catch up on everything/fix my whole life this weekend" every weekend but then it comes & you're like "but I deserve a break from being in work mode all week" & then repeat perpetually?
I still see science communicators talk about the "backfire effect" - the idea that quoting misinformation when debunking it might reinforce it in people's minds.

Good news: it probably doesn't! Early findings weren't replicated in more rigorous studies.

In my experience, NOT quoting the myth means people don't necessarily make the connection - when I've tried to refer to a myth indirectly, I get dozens of comments asking me if X is also wrong, and it's the exact thing I was trying to debunk 🫠

This is going around again, so:

No, corporations do not get a corporate tax break for round-up donations. You donated the money. You get to claim it on your taxes (if for some reason you cared). The corporation who collected the donation *does not*.

Round-up donations collect millions of dollars for charity. It's not a scam and it's not a skeezy way for a corporation to get a tax break.

Who Gets the Tax Benefit For Those Checkout Donations?

If you’ve shopped recently at your supermarket, there’s a good chance you faced a choice at the checkout counter: Whether to give to a charity. But like so much else these days, these giving opportunities have become controversial.

Is the state of the world terrible? Yes. Is it getting more terrible by the day? Also yes.

Do we, on the other hand, now have the highest-resolution images ever captured of the sun? *Also* also yes. And here they are. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/check-out-the-highest-resolution-images-ever-captured-of-the-suns-entire-surface-180985518/ #space

One of the problems with prosecuting cybercriminals is that building cases and investigations takes time, often years. In the meanwhile, the bad guys are ransoming this and extorting that and really harming a lot of people.

But what if we went after all the sim-swappers and other assholes in The Com by taking a page from the prosecution of Al Capone? I'm talking about just filing notices of unreported income with the IRS on all of these guys? I think the IRS even still has a bounty program for this kind of thing.
