Hey there lovelies, it's your GAYINT Supportive Internet Auntie again!

Today is the Trans Day of Visibility, and from looking at my feed, it seems like y'all have some complicated feelings about it. Are you visible enough? Are you too visible? Does "passing" make you less trans, or less valid?

I can't answer these questions for you, darling. I wish I could. Here's what I can tell you:

I don't know precisely what you're going through. But as a cis woman who's spent lots of time in hyper-masculine environments, I've seen the power of simply visibly existing. So, for those of you who choose to be visible, remember the power that simply being seen has.

If you feel like you're not doing enough? Remember to put on your own mask first. Things are *scary* out there, and your survival is important. There is nothing wrong with doing the "safe" thing.

If you are proud of being trans, if you can't imagine life any other way, I am so happy that you find pride in your identity!

If being trans is just something you had to pass through on your way to being able to fit into your skin a little better, and you don't really feel like it's your identity? I am so glad that you found a path that worked for you!

Regardless of whether or not you feel like you're doing trans "right", the important thing I want you to know is that you are precisely as trans as you are. Nothing anyone says can change that for you.

Trans women are women.
Trans men are men.
Trans nonbinary people aren't confused, they know precisely who they are.

Love and virtual hugs!

Big news!
I'm launching a tiny Mac app 🥺🔍🤏

It's called TinyStart, and it's a lightweight Launcher and Emoji picker for macOS!

Unlike Spotlight, TinyStart is super fast at showing results and launching apps. It never becomes overcrowded with search results you don't need, and it lets you open URLs, perform web searches with custom search engines, and quickly open folders in Finder.

Oh and yes, I think the Emoji picker is pretty good too. It's everything the default macOS Emoji picker isn't: it's fast, it lets you insert Emojis in any text field, it isn't picky about keywords, and it learns your favorite Emojis over time.

Get TinyStart at https://tinystart.app: it's €5, you pay for it once and future updates are free!

also I made a lil' video to show you what it looks like:

Two recent non-technical pieces on the philosophy and practice of mathematics:

"Mathematical methods and human thought in the age of AI", by Tanya Klowden and myself: https://arxiv.org/abs/2603.26524 (also discussed in https://terrytao.wordpress.com/2026/03/29/mathematical-methods-and-human-thought-in-the-age-of-ai/ ). This was a solicited piece for a forthcoming compendium in the philosophy of mathematics.

"What does it mean to think like a mathematician?", https://terrytao.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/talk-ver-3.pdf . These are slides for a talk I gave during a Pi Day (Mar 14) event at the local Curtis Center. The talk will be posted shortly.

Mathematical methods and human thought in the age of AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the name popularly given to a broad spectrum of computer tools designed to perform increasingly complex cognitive tasks, including many that used to solely be the province of humans. As these tools become exponentially sophisticated and pervasive, the justifications for their rapid development and integration into society are frequently called into question, particularly as they consume finite resources and pose existential risks to the livelihoods of those skilled individuals they appear to replace. In this paper, we consider the rapidly evolving impact of AI to the traditional questions of philosophy with an emphasis on its application in mathematics and on the broader real-world outcomes of its more general use. We assert that artificial intelligence is a natural evolution of human tools developed throughout history to facilitate the creation, organization, and dissemination of ideas, and argue that it is paramount that the development and application of AI remain fundamentally human-centered. With an eye toward innovating solutions to meet human needs, enhancing the human quality of life and expanding the capacity for human thought and understanding, we propose a pathway to integrating AI into our most challenging and intellectually rigorous fields to the benefit of all humankind.

Saw an article about this that linked to a video on another platform. I don't love posting content from elsewhere, but I will make exceptions....

Last year, my position was that we still had time to design PQ authentication mechanisms.

Now, based on the pace of progress and on statements like Google's, I believe:

1. we need to finish rolling out PQ key exchange yesterday
2. we need to start rolling out PQ auth now
3. it's too late to ship any new non-PQ design or system
