@nemobis @kiwix Choice is nice, yep. Apparently now I have choice between thousands of instances of which I need to individually research which accounts and other servers they show, which not, which accounts I can see/follow, which culture I'm welcome in.

My time is precious to me. I want clarity, and I want access to everything, including the 'bad stuff'. This thing has already taken me at least an hour on a free day - time I really prefer to spend otherwise. YMMV.

@awinkler @wikidata I agree! I only gave a few examples that I tend to know, but it would be great to have a curated, editable list of these somewhere (on Wikidata?)!

@awinkler @wikidata Modest, but it makes me happy: I'm seeing more and more adoption of @wikidata for #LOD purposes in GLAM databases, including Wikidata links on their websites. This is one of the long-term benefits of Wikidata as a commons: stable identifiers that interlink to the rest of the #LOD web. A few examples in the wild:

Mastodon/fediverse frustration. I haven't been active here for a while.

I want to boost this post - but my server doesn't allow me to even find it? https://liker.social/@wikidatatw/110548377289182240

What can I do to circumvent this?

Do I need to switch servers (again)?

This is why I'm still mostly active on Twitter. I just want to read and boost whatever *I* want without needing to jump through so many hoops.

News: "It’s with a great sense of calm I introduce our newest team member, Jessamyn West. She’s joining us as the new Community Manager of the Flickr Commons program." We should all be so lucky to be onboarded like this.

nature observation is a bit like github. i report a bug, in this case dead blue bugs on the sandy trail and someone explains, "it's not a bug, it's intended behavior" 😁

https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/161607639#activity_comment_32a087db-4698-4cbf-885d-e67fd85bb1f5

they identified my bug in a few hours and now the observation is submitted to a scientific #opendata dataset of #biodiversity at @gbif

this can be a great #hobby for someone who likes #hiking and #photography

My essay "In between performance and documentation" was published on Rhizome:
https://rhizome.org/editorial/2023/may/05/in-between-performance-and-documentation/

It's about digital art conservation where documentation resources created by digitally recording observable behavior in a structured format can be integrated with fully performing parts of an artwork.

Originally this was written for the rather cool book "Documentation as Art" edited by @aaaannet and Gabriella Giannachi, featuring authors such as @katrina, @spinster, @GIFmodel, and many more!

In between performance and documentation

Digital artworks, even if they appear technically simple, are dependent on computer systems to be performed. Documentation is supposed to be consulted when that performance is not available, in particular when conservators restore a dysfunctional artwork and need guidance on what they should be working towards. However, artworks can also be effectively preserved by becoming a technical hybrid of their original performance and documentation materials.
