I can't help but notice many toots from helpful newbies encouraging you to support the Mastodon Patreon.

It's fine to do that but understand it goes to just two big instances and the official Mastodon dev team.

It does NOT trickle down to YOUR instance. If you want to support your server, donate to it directly. Nearly all the costs of the explosive growth of the past few weeks is borne by local instances.

Mastodon is decentralized. There is no Mastodon Inc. This is not Twitter.

One thing that does convince me that transformation is possible on Mastodon is the number of replies and DMs that contain some variation of "I didn't think about this until you explained it," or "I used to think one way about this feature but your threads have me thinking differently."

As a philosopher, a member of a discipline that is famously abstracted away from experience, this is high praise and definitely cements my desire to keep making these threads.

One thing that's getting a little lost in this mix, is that some of the people desperately holding on at Twitter are because they are trapped by either healthcare or visas.

That there are systemic traps that trap workers in America so they feel unable to move freely to new employers who want them and would have better pay or conditions is *nuts* and deserves a lot more attention than it gets.
