Either way, without this behavior being modified, I can't play the latest Minecraft on my Nvidia card with a GL 3.3.0 profile, when I should be able to.
Found some interesting behavior with #lwjgl3 and #glfw yesterday: I'm not sure where the behavior is located, but #Minecraft (or a library down the stack) decides to pick the highest GL core profile available that matches something in its database, even if it's not accelerated. I was able to confirm this by installing an older version of Minecraft which was able to pick the accelerated core profile, and not the llvmpipe core profiles - I suppose lwjgl3 didn't know to check and got lucky here?
There's a stretch of time in PCs where the machines of that era simply won't be usable. People are writing discord clients for IBM PCs but an ASUS EeePC that was released in 2009-2011 won't be able to do much of anything useful or interesting for anyone, ever
Turns out that in 2024 a lot of stuff is still 32-bit and that's probably not changing, so there's a small, small window of games I can run: 64-Bit Games that use OpenGL, in an era where Vulkan is increasingly more common. With Wine moving to Vulkan in place of OpenGL for their Direct3D wrappers, and Nvidia not supporting Vulkan on anything Fermi and below due to "market forces", that's a lot of useful silicon collecting dust
What amazes me is how the Twitter diaspora that scattered journalists and audiences across multiple platforms, hasn’t made it clear to everyone why an Open Social network should be everyone’s priority. Humanity needs it to be free of corporate and psychopathic platform owners.
Wow just what I always wanted, Nvidia Linux driver with no Vulkan support, that only works on native 64-bit applications
Oh look, the swamp cooler scam is back.
I dunno if anyone noticed but Apple II Scans is no more. I sure hope someone archived all that!
RAIDERS5, a game made in 1985 by UPL, is on Nintendo Switch as a 68 MB download. The main ROM on the system board is 80KB. less than 1% of the download is actual game. Fuckin impressive, man
At the risk of beating a zombified horse, There is absolutely no reason for ALL video games these days to be so freaking huge. I can barely download any Switch games now without getting a massive SD Card
