RE: https://eupolicy.social/@bendrath/116835446871613654

From what I understand based on this statement, it seems detection has not been decided on yet

Good news: The fight isn't lost yet, and it's a sign the EP is still standing strong against mass-scanning

Bad news: now this will be followed up by the Irish presidency, who, if I remember correctly, are very much in favor of mass scans.

Don't give up, the fight isn't over yet.
#chatcontrol

@Digol @bendrath I think it's good, they haven't decided on what detection will look like meaning that parliament still hasn't given up their stance for now
🇪🇺⚖️ The EU Council's own Legal Service confirms:
Mass #ChatControl is incompatible with fundamental rights!
🛑 Yet, this is exactly what they are trying with procedural trickery now.
❌ Stop the mass surveillance of millions!

💥 Act now!
@echo_pbreyer I see this either failing where it is now... Getting deadlocked in trilogues... Or getting annulled by the courts. Unfortunate that courts take a long while. It's unfortunate the council and commission rather waste their time with surveilance laws rather than genuine protections...
@Digol This is why everyone who can should keep calling and sending emails... Even if they hang up, it means they know what we want. now we need to let them know we won't back down until it's defeated.

@aral The parliament exists to give the people the illusion of having power in the lawmaking process. The EU is not a democracy, merely disguised as one. I would love to be proven wrong of course. But unless major change I doubt I am.

I don't want to see the EU collapse or whatever. it has done alot of good too. But the current EU leadership feels like a poor joke.

@padraig @clickhere "waiting to see what others will vote" wtf? Why the hell are they in parliament then???

@overit Possibly. Though I've heard rumors that the UK in particular has MPs who don't know what a VPN is. All they know is that "It's a thing that bypasses age verification"

Stupidity is just as terrifying just in other ways.

@juno0 Yeah. They'll get arrested. their stuff searched. then released because hey guess what false positive. Tax payer money and police resources wasted.

AI can sometimes just halucinate apparently... So I can't wait until their mandatory scheme falls apart.

My guess is that negotiations on the permanent framework aren't going well. So they want to extend it as much as possible. But I don't know. It seems... desperate
