My guess is that negotiations on the permanent framework aren't going well. So they want to extend it as much as possible. But I don't know. It seems... desperate

I've been trying to make logical sense of the EU's recent move to try and bring back #chatcontrol 1.0

At first I thought it was a distraction. but that doesnt work here, they bring the same issue with some minor differences... The parliament seems to be getting tired of it. And it's making more people suspicious of the proposal and EU leadership.

From a strategic point of view the council is shooting itself in the foot. (1/2)

The result? it will be like a needle in a haystack. A game of where's waldo... Except with our private messages.

The result is that you get a bunch of leaked chats because you were talking about grooming your dog... as in... brushing or trimming their fur.

And in no way can a privacy preserving detection algorythm do this. its impossible in every sense of the word.

We are talking about billions of leaked conversations because the EU does not understand basic common sense.

The funny thing? #chatcontrol would most likely end up getting overturned by the EUCJ. By the time this happens the damage will have been done.

I don't know what they expect even. Grooming detection will be based on keywords. But whether or not something is grooming is entirely dependant on context. You have false positives... And then you have technically correct reports that did stem from keywords being detected... Except in a completely different context / situation (1/3)

The EPPGroup loves spreading misinfo on X. "legal gap" my ass. scanning in the style of the #chatcontrol 1.0 regime is still happening as we speak. 🤡

And then governments question why we lose faith, why nearly every election the people switch to the other side.

Because you have lost the trust of the people, and the people at this point just want a government that leaves them alone.

I want to have hope we can defeat #chatcontrol

But its hard to keep that hope.

I've been in my 20s for a few years, the moment you enter your 20s is when people listen and take your problems seriously.

Govts want to tackle bullying online. But it was at school I experienced the most bullying.

Last post for the night:

Social media is so beloved by children, because in the analog world, they usually do not get a voice. Opinions are ignored because "the adults are speaking". so it feels like social media is the only place they can speak their mind without being told to shut up. And I know this because that is exactly why I have been lurking social media for the past decade.

If social media is an issue. give them a voice in the analog world.

Age verification doesn't protect children. it endangers them and their families... This is why #privacy matters. It's not "one or the other". You need both.

I don't know if govts are enacting these things on purpose to erode our privacy and anonymity... Or if they're too stupid to see that anonymity online is the only way to be safe online.
