I’ve been focusing on my environmental justice project, and things are coming along.
I built this website, and I’m looking for some leverage on the San Mateo government. It’s just plain lying to everyone about this issue.
For a greener, safer san mateo An End to Gas Leaf Blowers in San Mateo The Problem Gas powered leaf blowers inflict large public pain for a small private gain. They use 19th century technology that disturbs the peace while spewing a host of harmful toxins and pollutants into our neighborhoods. It’s like lead in […]
Concretely, what is the First Amendment giving the US?
In this article, the ACLU argues that deep fakes are protected because free speech. That's ridiculous.
At the same time, if you protest Isreal's genocide, the state can legally attack you with chemical weapons. The state says can buy any law you want if you've money enough because free speech. You can lie about winning an election because free speech.
What the hell?

It’s a relief that #biden stepped aside. I sleep better.
I enthusiastically support #Kamala Harris. She’s as good a center-lefty as there is. Maybe I’m a little desperate for any of this to make sense, too.
But I am still waiting on her Israel position, though. She’s said to be not as bad as Biden, but that says little.
I’m watching people attribute good will and political genius to Biden, and it’s bizarre. They actually think he planned to drop out this whole time. Some feel cheated and vow some sort of revenge for their guy being forced out.
I can only think Americans are just that desperate to make sense of all of this chaos.
Even here on Mastodon, the more people read this, the more pressure it will build on the Israeli army to leave the community of Umm al-Khair in peace at least for the duration of the weddings. So please share 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻.
Here is the statement ("tonight" refers to last night, July 23rd):
2/6
Pursuant to my previous post, this short opinion piece by Lily Greenberg Call, a Harris supporter, former Department of the Interior appointee, and the first Jewish American official to resign from the Biden administration to protest US support for Israel's genocide in Gaza, really brings home why if Harris wants to reassemble the 2020 coalition and beat Trump in 2024, continuing to support the genocide is not an option:
I worked to elect Kamala Harris. She must break with Biden on Israel and Palestine
"I resigned because of Joe Biden’s disastrous policy on Gaza, providing the financial and diplomatic support for the Israeli military to massacre, starve and forcibly expel countless Palestinians in Gaza. As a staffer in the administration, I heard reports that Harris and her staff pushed the US president to adopt a policy on Gaza that was both more humane and in alignment with international law, but were rebuffed. I saw the Harris I moved to Iowa for in her speech in Selma, becoming the first senior administration official calling for a ceasefire, even as I was disappointed that it was only for six weeks. This was reportedly an effort by Biden’s team to water down her speech. It is shameful that Biden refused to listen to Harris – or the majority of Americans for that matter. Now that Biden has stepped aside, she has the opportunity to chart her own path on Israel and Palestine.
For months, the majority of Democrats and Americans, including American Jews, have supported a lasting ceasefire and hostage deal between Israel and Hamas. Harris must make clear that she supports using the US government’s leverage to end the bloodshed and reunite families. One clear way that she can do so is by supporting an arms embargo on offensive weapons for the Israeli military – a policy floated by Biden before he ultimately backtracked and greenlit Israel’s devastating ground invasion of Rafah."
I think ultimately there are two important issues brought up in this article, so we're going to look at them briefly in succession here. The first issue is that despite a certain right-leaning segment of Democrat leadership's insistence otherwise, demanding an end to the genocide and a significant change in White House policy towards Israel is not a fringe issue being pushed by "leftists," "Muslim American activists," and naïve pie-in-the sky students who "don't know how the real world works" and "aren't representative" of the larger Dem Party voting base. That's absolute bullshit, supporting a fascist Israeli government's legally-recognized genocide in Gaza is deeply unpopular across the entire Dem Party coalition and as one popular opinion columnist noted, it's never a good idea to ask your voters to step over the bodies of dead children to cast a ballot - which is a thing I can't believe I have to type here in 2024.
"By setting herself apart from Biden’s failed policy, Harris has the opportunity to rebuild a coalition to defeat Trump that would include progressives, young people and Arab Americans among others.
More than 700,000 Democrats voted uncommitted during the primary in protest of Biden’s support for Israel’s war on Gaza. They are a crucial part of the coalition needed for Democrats to win swing states like Michigan, Georgia and Minnesota. The policies these voters are demanding are broadly popular among Democrats and Americans writ large. Even a majority of my own community, American Jews, support conditioning arms shipments to Israel."
The second issue involves the deeply misguided assumption by Nat Sec ghouls in the administration that opposition to Israel's genocide in Gaza is somehow antisemitic, and that Jewish American voters writ large support this monstrous fuckery simply because right-leaning (even far right) Jewish American organizations that are already in the tank for Trump, declare it to be so. As the author notes, the majority of Jewish Americans do not support bombing refugee camps, sniping Palestinian kids, and various other obvious war crimes being conducted by the IDF on behalf of a far right extremist government in Israel. Biden's vociferous support of Zionism has lead this administration down the disastrous path of courting winger votes they won't get, while marginalizing Jewish American voices in their own pro-Democrat, anti-Trump coalition; actions that have even gone so far as to attempt to label these folks as "antisemitic" - which I'm sure was shocking news to Jewish Americans who don't support murdering children in Gaza.
The simple truth here is that the best time for the President, the White House, and Dem Party leadership to oppose the genocide in Gaza would have been before it started. The second best time? Is right now. History is calling, and I for one hope that presumptive Dem presidential nominee Kamala Harris is willing to pick up the phone. The 2024 election, and perhaps what passes for US democracy, depends on it.
